Knitting Pattern: Owl Baby Blanket

Knitting Pattern: Owl Baby Blanket

There’s something so cute about owls. Not necessarily the real ones – the ones that eat mice and all that. But the cartoony ones with big eyes and knowing smiles. This blanket welcomes baby with a cozy mommy-baby owl cuddle. The owl family is surrounded by cabled big-eyed friends, keeping watch to make sure all is safe. Backed in soft yellow flannel, it will hopefully welcome a safe and cozy good night’s sleep.

Backing the blanket in flannel makes it extra cozy and hides all the intarsia

For details:
For the eyes, I did duplicate stitch in yellow, duplicating three times on the same stitch. This made the eyes look pretty round. I then just did a simple sewing-type stitch twice in the middle in black for the pupil. I made beaks just for the mommy and baby owls using black yarn and duplicate stitch. For the stars, I randomly did duplicate stitch throughout the sky in yellow. To finish the blanket, I backed it in a piece of yellow flannel, and joined to the knit blanket using blanket stitch. You could skip the finishing, but I think it’s nice to cover up when there’s as much intarsia going on as there is in this blanket, especially when little hands may be pulling at the yarn.
